Pyrgos

Pyrgos is a city in western Peloponnese and capital of the prefecture of Ilia. The city is 4 km away from the sea, 19 km away from Ancient Olympia and 315 km away from Athens. The port of Pyrgos is Katakolon.

The unique Greek forest with an area of 218,000 acres, consisting of oak. It is incorporated in the NATURA 2000 network because of the scale, which is estimated from the ancient times. ?Located in the Mountain Ileia. It borders from the east side with the river Erimanthos, from the west side with the village Simopoulos and the south side with villages Nemouta, Lalas and Dukas.

Skafidia Sacred monastery of Skafidia
Sacred monastery of the Municipality of Skafidia. Temple (icon of Madonna Skafidiotissa) of Byzantine style of the 7th century. It collapsed during the earthquake of 1887 and was built up later in Basilika style. Fortress of the monastery. A 1.000 year old building. Details at the touristic guide published by the monastery. Into the monastery there is a museum in function with many historical objects.
Kremasti Sacred monastery of Panagia Kremasti
Sacred monastery near the villages Lambeti, Lanthi, Varvaseni and Kolyrio. Dedicated to Panagia Kremasti. The sacred temple which is situated in the cave was set in the year 1601. The date of the establishment of the monastery is unknown, but it must have been set in long before 1700. The situation of the monastery and also its reputation as patriotic centre conduced to offer safe hospitality to the passing from this mountainous passage sinners. The structure of the complex of the monastery was in favor of running a secret school.
Fragopidima Sacred monastery of St. Nickolaos of Fragkopidimatos
Sacred monastery built 6 km to the southeast of Amaliada and 12 km to the northeast of Pyrgos, at an altitude of 350 m. Dedicated to St. Nickolaos. The nickname "Fragkopidima" comes from a myth during the Dominion of the Franks.
